For the past six months (Q4, 2015 and Q1, 2016), employment increases in New Jersey over the year have varied between 1.5% and 2%. In comparison, the U.S. rate has been a little over 2%.  For the longest period of time, New Jersey employment grew by about 1 percentage point slower than the nation. That put New Jersey’s gains at about half or even less half of the national rate.  That is no longer the case.
